Press Release on Banning the Executive Director of ECRF from Travel

Cairo, June 2, 2015
Security forces banned Mr. Mohamed Lotfy, the executive director of ECRF from travelling earlier today, June 2, 2015 to Germany, and confiscated his passport. The trip was answering a call from the Bundestag (German parliament). Mr. Lotfy asked if this ban comes from the Public Prosecutor, but an officer in plainclothes told him that this ban is due to “security concerns”. He also informed him that security agencies will contact him in order to schedule a meeting with him, without revealing which agency specifically.
ECRF deplores such repressive measures taken by the Egyptian state, attempts to close the Egyptian public sphere and isolating Egyptians from the international community. ECRF calls the Egyptian state to stop the exceptional measures against the Egyptian civil society, end limits on public freedoms, stop utilizing the same repressive measures used by earlier regimes and learn from the lessons of the Egyptian revolution.
